The White House has released a video message that President Obama sent to the people of Iran on the occasion of the celebration of Persian New Year, Nowruz. In this video the President moves to fulfill the pledge he made during his inaugural address that the United States is ready to "extend our hand if you will unclench your fist."
The address, with subtitles in the Farsi language, coupled with a closing paragraph in which the president quotes from an ancient Persian poem plus a phrase that he speaks in Farsi, is sure to touch a few hearts among the general Iranian population. Of course we have to hope that the powers that be do not edit the address.
